چکیده

Autonomous working systems are used in maritime research in different fields of application already for decades. Often it is not possible to keep a permanent connection with a cable. This stems from the depth of missions up to 6000 meters, difficult reachable locations or mission periods of several months. Generally, the power supply of such systems can be guaranteed with accumulators only. Alternative energy sources like wind generators or solar cells are not usable because of the depth of missions. Therefore, the design concepts for such systems should include a minimization of the power demand for each single system component.

Intermittent Communications Modeling and Simulation for Autonomous Unmanned Maritime Vehicles using an integrated APM and FSMC Framework

In this work a framework is presented for addressing the issue of intermittent communications faced by autonomous unmanned maritime vehicles operating at sea. In particular, this work considers the subject of predictive atmospheric signal transmission over multi-path fading channels in maritime environments. A Finite State Markov Channel is used to represent a Nakagami-m modeled physical fading...

Maritime Data Transfer Protocol (MDTP): A Proposal for a Data Transmission Protocol in Resource-Constrained Underwater Environments Involving Cyber-Physical Systems

The utilization of autonomous maritime vehicles is becoming widespread in operations that are deemed too hazardous for humans to be directly involved in them. One of the ways to increase the productivity of the tools used during missions is the deployment of several vehicles with the same objective regarding data collection and transfer, both for the benefit of human staff and policy makers. Ho...

In conventional power systems, frequency and voltage deviations are chosen as indexes for characterizing conventional power system security. While  in an autonomous micro grid with Electronically Interfaced Distributed Generation (EIDG), frequency and voltage deviations  against power and loads disturbances perfectly controlled by f-P and V-Q controller. Unlike conventional power syst...

A Distributed Control Architecture for Autonomous Operation of a Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid System

Hybrid AC/DC microgrids facilitate the procedure of DC power connection into the conventional AC power system by developing the distributed generations (DGs) technologies. The conversion processes between AC and DC electrical powers are more convenient by hybrid systems. In this paper, an energy management system (EMS) for a hybrid microgrid network is proposed due to the optimal utilization of...

Hegemonic Threats and Great-power Balancing

The central proposition of balance-of-power theory (albeit one that has never been tested systematically) is that great powers balance against hegemonic threats. This article argues that this proposition applies to hegemonic concentrations of land-based military power in autonomous continental systems, but not necessarily to hegemonic concentrations of sea power in maritime systems. With a focu...
